Dr. Siripong Malasri
Dr. Siripong Malasri was recently appointed Dean of the School of Engineering at Christian Brothers University (CBU), Memphis, United States of America. Dr. Siripong Malasri, received his Master of Engineering in Structural Engineering and Construction 1977, from AIT School of Civil Engineering. Dr. Siripong is also a Professor of Civil Engineering at CBU and serves as the Interim Director of the Graduate Engineering Program, Chair of the Packaging Department and Director of the Healthcare Packaging Consortium. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Tennessee and is an ISTA certified packaging laboratory technologist.

AIT alumnus Mr. Chandrashekhar Kakal, who has been appointed as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Infotech. L&T Infotech is a subsidiary of L&T Limited, a USD 14 billion conglomerate. Mr. Kakal, received his Master of Business Administration in International Business from AIT’s School of Management in 1996 and also will join the board of directors of L&T infotech. Eng. and Dr. Eng. in Water Resources Engineering from AIT in 1973 and 1976, respectively, (2) Professor Mario T. Tabucanon, who received M. Eng. and D. Eng. in Industrial Engineering from AIT in 1974 and 1977, respectively, and (3) Professor Ram Manohar Shrestha, who received in M. Eng. and Dr. Eng. in Industrial Engineering and Management from AIT in 1982 and 1986, respectively.

Sc. and Dr. Eng. in Agricultural and Food Engineering in 1989 and 1994, respectively), who has recently been promoted to full Professor, has received an award / honor from the Prime Minister of Nepal for his continuous dedication and contribution to the Agriculture/Aquaculture Development in Nepal. AIT alumnus appointed Ledcor Group Applied Research Chair:Dr. Haneef Mian, who completed his Master’s from AIT’s Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM) in 1997, has been appointed the Ledcor Group Applied Research Chair in Oil Sands Environmental Sustainability at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Canada.

Dr. Haneef was earlier with the Energy Resources Control Board (ERCB. His research interests are solutions for removal of toxic heavy metals and organics from oil sands waste as well as tailings treatment technologies. He is leading the “Green Chemistry and Green Engineering Initiative” at the School of Sustainable Building and Environmental Management at NAIT. Following his appointment, he was interviewed in Tech Life Mag, apart from being featured in the Winter 2011 issue of the NAIT Newsletter.

Two AIT alumni promoted to full professors at Tribhuvan University, Nepal: Recently, the Tribhuvan University Service Commission has promoted two AIT alumni, namely, Dr. Punya Prasad Regmi and Dr. Madhav Kumar Shrestha to full professors.

Dr. Regmi, professor of Agricultural Economics, received both Master and PhD degree in Regional and Rural Development Planning (RRDP) from AIT in 1992 and 1999, respectively. He joined Tribhuvan University in 1985 as Assistant Lecturer and subsequently was promoted to Reader or Associate Professor in 2005.





Dr. Shrestha joined Tribhuvan University for the first time in 1979 and worked for 2 years as Assistant Lecturer for Zoology. But later he worked as Assistant Fisheries Development Officer at government Fish farm for 4 years. Then Dr. Shrestha rejoined to Tribhuvan University as Lecturer of Fisheries and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1999. Like Dr. Regmi, he received both Master and Doctoral degree from AIT, but in Aquaculture in 1989 and 1994, respectively.

Mr. Chaovalit Ekabut
Mr. Chaovalit Ekabut (IEM, 1982) will become the Thailand biggest industrial conglomerate Vice President – Finance and Investment & CFO: Mr. Chaovalit, received his Master from AIT in Industrial Engineering and Management in 1982 and the current AITAA President, will take up his new assignment as Vice President - Finance and Investment & CFO, The Siam Cement Public Co. Ltd. and President, Cementhai Holding Co. Ltd., effective on 1 Jan 2011. Mr Chaovalit now heads one of SCG's five core businesses along with the petrochemical and cement units. SCG Paper actually has the largest operations of the group in terms of workforce, with nearly 10,000 staff out of SCG's total employment of 30,000, plus a number of manufacturing plants. Before joining the paper unit, Mr Chaovalit took part in SCG's major restructuring aimed at surviving the 1997 financial crisis, mainly by divesting non-core businesses. SCG is now focusing on expanding its Southeast Asian operations, and the paper business is a major part of the group's 100-billion-baht five-year plan, which revolves largely around mergers and acquisitions. AIT alumnus appointed to the Viet Nam Government Post: On 24 September 2010 Dr. Bui Cach Tuyen (EV, 1992) was appointed as Deputy Minister of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam by the Prime Minister of Vietnam while holding concurrently the position of General Director of the Vietnam Environment Administration.
